Inspired by the real life story surrounding Action Comics #1 and the famous copy once owned by Nicolas Cage, Action #1 offered a fascinating look into the world of comic collecting and fandom. As Art Director, I approached the project with enthusiasm, helping translate the visual ideas of the production into practical environments that supported the film’s story. Working under Production Designer Paul Joyal, I prepared drawing concepts, developed graphic elements, assisted the Set Decorator with layout planning, and coordinated with multiple departments to ensure each location was properly prepared for filming.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the production was designing and supporting the environments that captured the vibrant culture of comic book conventions. The film allowed us to create an immersive convention setting filled with themed graphics, displays, and fan driven details that reflected the excitement of the comic community. I also oversaw the graphic packages used for computer playback sequences, supplying creative direction and visual assets for the playback artist to animate. The production was filmed entirely on practical locations with minor builds integrated throughout to enhance the authenticity of the spaces.
