The spirited world of The Healing Powers of Dude was a joy to help bring to life. The series balances humor, heart, and imagination while telling the story of a young boy navigating Social Anxiety Disorder with the help of his emotional support dog. As Art Director, I worked closely with Production Designer Burns Burns to develop playful and inventive visual concepts that supported the tone of the show as it evolved throughout the season.
Together, we created numerous concept packages that were presented to the producers as the series unfolded. Many of the design influences drew inspiration from the adventurous spirit and visual storytelling of The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Back to the Future, which helped shape environments that felt energetic, nostalgic, and full of discovery. Physical presentation models were also built to help communicate design ideas during the creative process.
My responsibilities included preparing detailed drawing concepts, creatively art directing the visual look of each set, and leading the team in executing the builds across both locations and stage work. I also oversaw the budgeting of departmental projects and provided creative direction for the computer playback elements used in the series. The production was evenly balanced between practical locations and studio sets, allowing the design team to craft a vibrant and imaginative world that supported the show’s uplifting story.
